MY DOG IS YOUR NEIGHBOR TOO

BIG DOG

Amy has a Perro de Presa Canario, a moderately large-sized molossoid.
This is a BIG dog. One day the dog escaped. A neighbor who is terrified of this dog caught the dog and returned it by walking with it holding onto the collar. She could have easily retreated indoors, called Amy, called the police, or ignored the dog. This neighbor demonstrated rising above her own fears to engage in an act of kindness and neighboring. There have been other Maverick sightings in the neighborhood. Other neighbors call to tell her "Maverick" is here. Amy is thankful for their acts of kindness.

LITTLE DOG
I have dog(s) that occasionally work their way out of their collars (not all of them at once).  When that happens, neighbors step in to help. One neighbor sends private messages to let me know that my dog is in her yard, or she sends her adult son to walk the dog 2 doors down to my home. Another neighbor opens his garage door, lures the dog inside and then shuts the garage door so I can come get it. What a lovely example these friends set, as opposed to the neighbor who immediately calls animal control.  Our animal control staff are awesome. When they know who the dog belongs to, they have been kind enough to make contact and allow the dog owner an opportunity to collect the dog instead of taking it to the "pound".  Think of being the kind of neighbor who tries to help first instead of being the one who complains.

BAD DOG:
The bad dog in my neighborhood was always on the loose. Very aggressive! Animal control was constantly seeking this dog from neighbor complaints. I went to the bad dog's owner's house and asked for their mobile numbers. Whenever I saw bad dog in my yard or in my neighbor's yard, I texted the owners to ask them to get bad dog. This dog's family moved away, hopefully to a home where the BAD dog can be happy and turn into a GOOD dog.

How can we be better neighbors to our dogs?

Dog owners: Do your best to keep the dog family members on a leash, in a kennel, by your side, loved and safe.

Dog neighbors: Do your best to reach out to your dog owner neighbors when one escapes for a cruise through the neighborhood. Not everyone loves pets, but you can be the kindest of neighbors by helping your neighbors retrieve their critters. You may just meet and get to know some incredible people living near you!
