Nominations for Missouri's Most Engaged Neighbors are being accepted. The top nominees will be recognized during Missouri Good Neighbor Week.  Learn more here:  https://missourigoodneighborweek.com/



In honor of Missouri Good Neighbor Week, we want to acknowledge neighbors who go above and beyond to be engaged. To find the best engaged neighbors among us, we need nominations for the Missouri Engaged Neighbor Awards!
 
All nominees will receive a small gift as a token of appreciation for their commitment to making their neighborhoods a great place to live. Winners of a Missouri Engaged Neighbor Award will be selected in participating counties and at a statewide level. Individual counties and cities may also have locally sponsored prizes. Statewide winners will receive a special prize.
 
Individuals can nominate a person for the "Engaged Neighbor of the Year" award. Preference will be shown to nominees connected with others in their neighborhood through events, service, or social interaction.
 
Eligibility and criteria include:
  • Individual nominees must reside in the county that is honoring them and in the state of Missouri;
  • Individuals may not self-nominate for this award;
  • Nominees may not be compensated for the service described in the nominations, and
  • Elected officials may not participate as nominees. 
 
What is an engaged neighbor?
  • An "engaged neighbor" makes their neighborhood better.
  • They know and interact with their immediate neighbors.
  • They try to make sure people in the neighborhood feel included.
  • They attend and help at neighborhood activities.
  • They devote time and talent to service their neighbors or neighborhood.
  • Their engagement as a neighbor makes the area better for everyone.
 
Statewide sponsors are the University of Missouri Extension and The Hopeful Neighborhood Project.

  GETTING TO KNOW MY NEIGHBORS June 2023 Deana Tucker Dothage Buckhorn Court has been my home for 19 years. We have babies through age 95 who live here. People move out, move in and some lived their last days in homes on this street. My son and one of his closest friends were raised here. My neighborhood is green! Find a neighbor to reach out to.  Bring them a plant that can soon be planted outdoors, offer to plant it for them Invite a neighbor out to a local coffee shop in the morning Offer to shop for a neighbor who cannot get out Offer to take a neighbor to a park to walk on the trails What someone did nice for me: I've had some events recently that I need to publicize. I was too involved with the event to make time to take pictures. Without being asked, a few colleagues took pictures and have already emailed them me to use to promote the events and organization. WHAT HAPPENED TO ME WHILE SITTING ON MY FRONT PORCH June 2023 Deana Tucker Dothage This week I’ve worked from my home office, more specifically my front porch. A few days ago, two ladies walked by my house multiple times. They were knocking it out of the park for getting steps in. Eventually, one of them walked by again, but alone. I commented on how many steps she must have accomplished. She looks at me and says, “I know you!” I did not recognize her but went to the street to learn more. Turns out, she and I have two mutual friends, who sadly, have passed away. We discussed how we each had met the father & son and how important they were to both of us. We laughed and we cried. We agreed to keep in touch with the intent to get to know each other. Each day I’ve seen her walk by, we wave.  She texted me a picture of one of our friends. What a sweet gesture.
